Match the Ingredient to Your Process
Choosing a carbonate starts with the function required in the finished product. The following examples help R&D, procurement and quality teams identify the right questions before supplier approval.
When alkalinity or pH adjustment is required:Food Grade Potassium Carbonate may be evaluated for suitable processes where a controlled increase in alkalinity is needed. Define the target pH, process conditions and acceptable sensory profile before setting the use level.
When a leavening reaction is required:Food Grade Potassium Bicarbonate may be evaluated in combination with a suitable food acid. Reaction timing, moisture availability and acid balance affect gas release, product volume, texture and final pH.
When mineral contribution or powder performance matters:Food Grade Magnesium Carbonate should be evaluated against the intended function and the actual commercial form. Particle properties, moisture behaviour and compatibility with the rest of the formulation may be as important as the headline assay.

Sodium Reduction & Chemical Leavening: Potassium Bicarbonate acts as a direct 1:1 functional replacement for Sodium Bicarbonate in bakery applications – enabling clean-label low-sodium claims without compromising crumb structure or loaf volume.
Effervescent Formulations: Ideal for beverage tablets and powdered drink mixes requiring rapid carbonation and clean dissolution – delivering consistent fizz and mouthfeel.
Dutch Processing of Cocoa: Potassium Carbonate neutralizes natural cocoa acidity – darkening color and developing rich, smooth chocolate flavor profiles.
Ramen & Noodle Texture: Enhances gluten network strength – delivering traditional springy texture and yellow hue in alkaline noodles as a Kansui substitute.
Anti-Caking & Flow Improvement: Magnesium Carbonate absorbs excess moisture in high-humidity environments – keeping powdered drink mixes, salt, and seasonings free-flowing.
Mineral Fortification: Serves as a highly bioavailable magnesium source for nutritional supplements and fortified food formulations.
Identity and grade: Verify the chemical name, formula, CAS number and food-grade documentation.
Assay and specification basis: Confirm the applicable assay method, calculation basis and acceptance limits.
Moisture and physical properties: Review moisture, particle size, bulk density or dissolution characteristics where relevant.
Functional performance: Evaluate alkalinity, neutralizing value or other application-specific properties according to the ingredient.
Impurity limits: Check the relevant contaminants against your specification and applicable food requirements.
Packaging and storage: Assess moisture protection, package integrity, handling requirements and shelf-life information.
Regulatory suitability: Verify permitted uses, use limits and labelling requirements for the target market.

Storage and Handling
Storage Environment:
Carbonates and bicarbonates are hygroscopic and sensitive to carbon dioxide and moisture in the atmosphere. Please store the goods in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse with a temperature range of 10°C to 25°C and a relative humidity of less than 50%. The pallets should be raised above the ground and kept away from the exterior walls.
Packaging Integrity:
The product is packaged in 25-kilogram bags with moisture-proof PE/PP liners or custom bulk bags. Upon receipt, please inspect the bag seals and the condition of the outer packaging to ensure moisture-proof sealing performance during maritime transportation.
Safe Operations:
Follow the requirements for standard personal protective equipment (dust masks, safety glasses, protective gloves). When unloading dry powders, use a local exhaust system to reduce the accumulation of dust in the air.
Technical Data Sheet (TDS):
Product identity, specification limits and relevant physical or chemical properties.
Certificate of Analysis (COA):
Batch-specific test results against the agreed specification.
Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
Handling, storage, exposure controls and safety information.
Food-grade and regulatory documentation
Applicable grade declarations and supporting information for the intended use and destination market.
Traceability and packaging information
Batch identification, net weight, shelf life and storage conditions, as applicable.
Production Line Quality & Regulatory Compliance
Global Food Safety Standards: Fully certified under FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, and HACCP management systems.
Monograph Compliance: Meets or exceeds Food Chemicals Codex (FCC), EU Food Additive Specifications (E501, E504), and US FDA GRAS status.
Dietary Integrity: Halal and Kosher certified batches with complete Allergen-Free, Non-GMO, and BSE/TSE statements.
Purity Control: Advanced crystallization and heavy metal remediation ensure lead ≤ 1 ppm and arsenic ≤ 1 ppm.
